About

irish herbalist isabel fanning

Born in Ireland, Isabel has spent over half her life studying and practicing healing and care.

Initially qualifying as a General Nurse in Bonn, Germany in 2000, she started working as a Community Nurse in Dublin in 2007 and completed the Professional Certificate in Community Nursing in 2011. In 2012 she qualified as a Public Health Nurse. Isabel has accumulated a wealth of insight into the the different approaches to healthcare from working within healthcare systems in Ireland, Germany and the US. It is through this experience she recognised the value of different approaches to health.

Isabel first came in contact with herbal remedies as child growing up in Co. Meath, Ireland. Using dock leaves to ease the stinging of a nettle or garlic to ward off a cold. From an early age her father taught her to respect and grow plants, as well as to recognise how plants could affect animals. Working in Germany she experienced how herbs could be used to ease ill health and was exposed to different modalities to promote, maintain and regain health.

In 2014 during her daughter’s recovery from ill health she started learning more about the naturopathic approach to health and received her certification as a Clinical Herbalist in 2017. Isabel is a member of the Irish Register of Herbalists.

Isabel is passionate about herbs and is frequently found volunteering in St. Anne’s Physic Garden in Clontarf. She is an active member of groups and associations supporting Herbal Medicine in Ireland.
